Marie Dziadek
Marie Dziadek is an Associate Professor at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research in Sydney, Australia, but also holds a part-time appointment in the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Auckland, where she runs a research programme in epigenetics. Marie's research interests are in how gene expression and function are regulated during mammalian development. After completing a BSc(Hons) at Flinders University of South Australia and a PhD at Oxford University, she trained and worked in universities and research institutes in the USA, Canada, Germany and Australia (Melbourne) before joining the University of Auckland in 2001. In Auckland she established a research group to investigate the epigenetic consequences of maternal nutritional deficiency in pregnancy, using rat models. Marie is particularly interested in determining whether there is an epigenetic basis to early life programming of adult health and disease resulting from maternal undernutrition and maternal methyl donor deficiency. Her research group is analysing changes in DNA methylation, gene expression and genomic imprinting that result from dietary interventions during pregnancy in the rat.
