Michael Fenech
Dr. Fenech has more than 20 years of research experience in the field of genetic toxicology. His research work is renowned internationally for the development of the cytokinesis-block micronucleus (CBMN) assay and its applications in genetic toxicology and in nutritional research. Dr. Fenech has recently proposed the concept that recommended dietary allowances should be based on genomic stability because damage to DNA is a critical underlying cause of developmental and degenerative disease. Current research is focused on Genome Health Nutrigenomics and the establishment of Genome Health Clinics i.e. investigation of how genetic background determines nutritional requirement for genome maintenance or prevention of genome damage on an individual basis. Another area of research interest is the effect of different dietary patterns on genome health maintenance. The basic concept of Dr. Fenech's research is that genome damage is the most fundamental disease that can be diagnosed and nutritionally prevented.
