Graeme P Young

Graeme Young graduated MB, BS in 1969 from the University of Melbourne. He trained in clinical Gastroenterology at Royal Melbourne Hospital (University of Melbourne Clinical School) and attained Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 1978. He then went to the USA on a Fogarty International Fellowship and RACP Travelling Scholarship to study intestinal epithelial biology at Washington University, St Louis, Missouri with Dr David Alpers.  He graduated MD in 1981 by thesis at the University of Melbourne. In 1997 he was appointed as the inaugural Professor of Gastroenterology at Flinders University of South Australia, and Head Gastrointestinal Services at Flinders Medical Centre and Repatriation General Hospital. In 2002, he was additionally appointed as Director of Development, Flinders Centre for Innovation in Cancer Care, Prevention and Research.

He has an international reputation, especially in the area of colorectal cancer and its prevention.  He has published many scientific papers and other pieces (over 200) which have included articles on intestinal cell biology, mechanisms of dietary prevention, screening, high risk surveillance and public health issues related to bowel health and colorectal cancer.  He is a senior editor on several recent comprehensive, textbooks on the subject of colorectal cancer.
