My career has been devoted to understanding the structure and function of natural products, and developing agrochemical and medicinal applications, including synthetic analogues. This has involved running multidisciplinary projects collaborating with biologists. I am currently the leading expert on natural products from New Zealand plants, and have contributed articles and book chapters for the general public. I contribute to the New Zealand science community through co-supervision of PhD and MSc students at the University of Otago, plus refereeing for the Royal Society of New Zealand's ISAT fund. My international science contributions include being on the advisory board of Planta Medica, and regular refereeing for other journals, including J. Natural Products and J. Agricultural and Food Chemistry.
