The International Conference on Nutrigenomics & Gut Health 30th April to 3rd May 2006

FROM SCIENCE TO A MARKETABLE FOOD PRODUCT

Abstract submissions for the Young Investigators’ Session

The Young Investigators’ Session is open to all students currently engaged in PhD research, or those who have graduated from a PhD program not more than five years before the first submission date below (i.e. graduation date of the 1st of November 2000 or later).

While the focus of the Conference is Nutrigenomics & Gut Health, and abstracts on this theme may be given preference, submissions on related topics (e.g. nutrition, Crohn’s disease) will also be considered, as will those focusing on particular techniques of relevance to the research carried out by NuNZ. For more information on what topics may be of relevance, please refer to the “About Us” section of the NuNZ website (http://www.nutrigenomics.org.nz/index/page/26). The quality of the submitted abstract will be the most important criterion for acceptance of the submission.

Awards
Best presentation:
An award will be made to the Young Investigator delivering the best oral presentation (as judged by the Scientific Committee). All submissions accepted for oral presentation will be eligible for this award.
Travel awards:
Travel awards will be available for Young Investigators. Details are still to be confirmed, but it is likely that these will cover the total cost of travel within Australasia, or part-travel for those traveling from more distant locations. Further information will be made available as sponsors are confirmed. If you wish to be considered for a travel award, please make this clear in your expression of interest.

Timelines for preparing and submitting abstracts
Abstracts should be formulated in adherence with the guidelines below for review by the Scientific Committee.
An expression of interest (including the title, authors and affiliations) may be submitted from the 1st of November 2005.
Abstracts should be submitted by the 10th of February 2006.
Acknowledgement of receipt of submission, and of acceptance of the abstract for presentation, will be made by email. Acceptance will be confirmed by mid-February 2006.

Guidelines for abstracts
Abstracts should not be more than 300 words and must be written in English.
The complete name(s) of the author(s) must be included and the name of the primary author should be underlined. Affiliations should also be included.
Your abstract should include the objective of the study, outline of the methodology, results and conclusion.
Abstracts should be written in Word or a RTF document and submitted as an attachment to an email (nunzconference@auckland.ac.nz). The document should be called NuNZ_surname where surname is the surname of the registered presenting author.
To ensure the abstract is considered for inclusion in the Young Investigators’ Session, please include the phrase “Young Investigators’ Session” in the subject line of the email containing the submission (both the initial expression of interest, and that of the abstract) and in the first line of the word document containing the abstract.

Guidelines for Oral presentations
It is expected oral presentations will be made using Microsoft Powerpoint and a computer projector. An overhead projector may also be available if required. Queries about other software (e.g. video) requirements should be made early. Presentations should be brought to the conference on a CD or a memory stick.
Depending on how many submissions are received, the number of oral presentations may be limited; abstracts not accepted for oral presentation may be suitable for a poster presentation, to be included in the poster session on the 1st of May 2006. In this case, the guidelines for preparing posters (http://www.nutrigenomics.org.nz/index/page/65) should be followed.
