Our chemists have a wide range of expertise in organic chemistry, natural products and analytical chemistry. Specific skills include:
- Purification of bioactive compounds by chromatography, guided by biological assays.
- Identification of compounds’ structures by instrumental methods, especially mass spectrometry and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance spectroscopy.
- Analyses of bioactive components in food varieties, and in blood and tissue samples from animal and human studies. LC-MS, or Liquid Chromatography - Mass Spectrometry, is a key enabling technology for these analyses. Metabolomics uses combined results of LC- and GC-MS analyses to understand metabolism of bioactive compounds and for biomarker discovery.
- Synthesis of reference compounds and proposed biomarker metabolites, to support identifications and analyses.
